Because your body normally runs on glucose (or sugar) as fuel, limiting your intake of carbs forces your body to burn fat for energy, a process that produces ketones in your body, which is known as ketosis. Contrary to popular belief, this diet isn’t just “butter and bacon,” as one clinical nutritionist told POPSUGAR, but emphasizes vegetables and greens, too.
